Jean Kelly is clearly established as one of Ireland's foremost harpists, hailing from a family of several generations of professional musicians. Indeed one of her ancestors sang in the first performance of Handel's 'Messiah' given in 1753 in Dublin.
Jean won a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music, London. Upon graduating she spent her first professional year performing 40 concertos and recording 2 compact discs as well as fulfilling many international engagements.. She regularly tours with the Locrian Ensemble performing harp concertos and her own arrangements of Irish music and has recorded three CD's with the group. Jean has worked with The London Irish Sinfonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Boyzone, Phil Coulter and BBC Television.
Jean regularly appears as a soloist in St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church and recently performed Mozart's flute and harp concerto at the inaugural concert of the London Irish Sinfonia.
She is involved in ongoing concerts for Live Music Now! A young musicians scheme set up by Yehudi Menuhin.
Jean played the harp at Buckingham Palace for HRH Prince Charles' 50th birthday and has since performed at Highgrove on several occasions.
Jean also plays the Celtic harp and can be heard on 'The Lord of the Rings' film soundtracks.
She recently performed in Vienna and St.Petersburg providing music for plays devised by Boomerang Theatre Company.
